Whether you’re looking for a whole ham or turkey to feed the family at the next get together, or just looking to grab a bite to eat at lunch time, HoneyBaked Ham in New Albany is sure to have something to suit everybody’s taste buds. HoneyBaked Ham offers more than one would think – not only regarding their menu, but for the community as well.
When Kerry Kemmer, current New Albany location owner, stopped by one day on his lunch break, the employees of HoneyBaked Ham told him that the owners at the time were looking to retire and that someone new would have to take over the store. Kemmer was a previous manager of Pacers and Racers right next door and came in often to get lunch. Kemmer eventually agreed to take the store over on top of still working at Pacers and Racers. For the first 5 years that Kemmer owned the store, he continued to juggle his management position next door. After 8 years of ownership at HoneyBaked Ham, Kemmer has now given the store his full attention.
If you’ve ever been to HoneyBaked Ham, chances are, the employees know you by name, order or both. They take pride in connecting with their customers and will make sure you know that you are welcome!
“We want you to see that we will go above and beyond to fulfill your order. Never anything less,” Kemmer said.
There is no other place around that is quite like HoneyBaked Ham. In fact, they are the number 1 ham retailer in the United States! Although they are known for their whole hams, their turkey breasts have become increasingly popular in recent years. On top of the FDA regulations for serving meat, HoneyBaked Ham also has their own set of regulations for their hams and turkeys. Their boneless hams and whole turkeys are smoked for at least 20 hours and each one is glazed by hand. This glaze features a distinct special HoneyBaked spice that gives the meat that unforgettable flavor.
Not only do they sell whole hams and turkeys, but they are also available sliced, by the pound. HoneyBaked Ham also features a menu of sandwiches, soups and even salads! You can eat them in the store at one of the tables in the dining area or get your meal to-go. They offer their sandwich, soup and salad menu all day long, but they do stop serving those items two days before Christmas in order to assure that the Christmas orders are filled on time. Their soups are offered all year long, not just in the colder months. Most people don’t know that they also offer ribs by the rack and even desserts. Two of their most popular desserts are their coffee cake and their cheesecake.
Families these days are so busy with work, kids’ activities and other aspects to spend time cooking, so HoneyBaked Ham can help with that! Even during the holiday season, all of the previous cooks are passing the torch to the younger generations. We have become more adamant on spending time with one another rather than in the kitchen for hours. At Christmas, more people are electing to purchase a ham and/or turkey breast for their family gatherings.
“There’s a reason for the line that’s out the door. It’s almost more of a pride thing than anything – people know exactly what the gold foil means and they will know that, like our employees, you have gone above and beyond for your family,” Kemmer said.
In the near future, HoneyBaked Ham does plan to make a few changes to their menu which will include new sandwiches and much more. Be sure to keep an eye out on their Facebook page and website as well! If you are planning a graduation party or even a summer picnic, keep in mind that HoneyBakedHam does meat and cheese trays, catering and box lunches as well!
